Albi is notable for its impressive fortified cathedral, Sainte-Cécile, and the Palais de la Berbie, the former residence of the Archbishops of Albi, which overlook the historic town centre and the river.
Albi is also the birthplace of post-impressionist painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, with a special museum in the city holding the world's largest collection of his works.
Finally, Albi is above all a historic centre whose name was given to the followers of Catharism, the Albigensians, who suffered violent repression in the 13th century at the hands of the Roman Catholic Church in what is known as the Albigensian Crusade. Sainte-Cécile Cathedral was built by the Catholics to combat the Cathar heresy.

Just 30 minutes from our campsite, Le Chêne Vert, in Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Occitanie, Albi and its mightily impressive, fortified Cathedral of Saint-Cécile are unmissable sites in Tarn.
